Workshop Overview
The term “Gemba” comes from the Japanese and means “place of action”. The “Gemba Walk” is about managers observing work processes directly on site and talking to their employees.
Imagine that after our Agile Readiness Workshop you have decided that we will support you in the agile and digital transformation of your company. As trainers and coaches, we would be integrated into the transformation process. Without knowledge of your organization’s specific processes and dependencies, some of our approaches might seem naïve and affect trust.
This is where our Gemba Walk comes into play. Please give us 10-20 days to get to know your people, your organizational structure, your products and services, and your market environment – from executives to operational teams. We are experienced and will have targeted conversations with specific roles. We want to understand your challenges on the ground and assess the dependencies and requirements of your organization.
During the Gemba Walk, we take detailed notes and have an intensive exchange with our main contacts. We attach great importance to openly describing the situation, sharing our findings and working with you to find solutions.
Work Objectives
- Get to know employees and roles: From top to bottom, get to know the most important shareholders, all management members, division managers, department heads, transformation leads, program managers, project managers, process owners, product owners, relevant staff positions, team leaders in selected areas, the gray eminences and some selected operational employees (key users/SMEs) in an approximately 30-minute interview
- Get to know the organizational structure and business processes: After an introduction by the head of department and project manager, experience the daily routine in the operational units and project teams – in the value streams from the very front to the very back
- Getting to know products and services: Getting to know products and services from the product idea to delivery, support and, if necessary, recycling
- Getting to know dependencies and compliance: Getting to know the framework conditions and organizational dependencies
- Get to know the issues from all roles at all levels: What fears, anxieties, blockages, difficulties, opportunities and hopes do employees associate with the transformation so that these are taken seriously in the change process and taken into account through appropriate measures?
